Ingredients
  

For the Shrimp and Sausage
  • 1 lb Shrimp, peeled and deveined Can replace with chicken or tofu.
  • 1 lb Ground Pork Sausage Alternatively, use chicken or turkey sausage.
For the Rice Base
  • 1 cup Long Grain White Rice Brown rice can be used for more nutrition.
  • 2 cups Chicken Broth Vegetable broth for a vegetarian option.
For the Aromatics
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil Vegetable oil or butter can substitute.
  • 1 cup Green Bell Pepper, diced Other bell pepper colors can substitute.
  • 1 cup Celery, diced
  • 1 cup Onion, diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced No substitutes for garlic.
For the Seasoning
  • 1 tbsp Cajun Seasoning Adjust cayenne for spice level.
  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
For Garnish
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley, chopped Can substitute with green onions.
  • to taste Hot Sauce (optional)

Method
 

Cooking Instructions
  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add shrimp and sauté for 2-3 minutes per side until pink. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, cook ground pork sausage over medium-high heat for 5-6 minutes until browned.
  3. Add onion, green bell pepper, and celery to the skillet. Sauté for 5 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in garlic, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Season with salt and pepper; cook for 1 more minute.
  5. Add the long-grain white rice to the skillet and toast for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Pour in chicken broth, stir, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes.
  7. Fold in sautéed shrimp and parsley; stir gently and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  8. Serve the Shrimp Dirty Rice hot, adding hot sauce for extra flavor if desired.
