  1. Begin by seasoning the ground beef generously with salt and black pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add seasoned ground beef and chopped onions, and cook until browned, about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce and tomato paste, mixing well. Add Italian seasoning, dried parsley flakes, garlic powder, crushed red pepper flakes, Worcestershire sauce, granulated sugar, and water.
  4. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Stir in fresh basil leaves just before serving to add brightness.
