Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then add the milk and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  3. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. The batter should be thick but pourable.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat until it reaches 350°F.
  5. Using a piping bag or a squeeze bottle, carefully drizzle the batter into the hot oil in a circular motion to form small spirals or shapes. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Remove the funnel cake bites from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
