Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 15x10x1-inch baking pan.
  2. Cream together 1 cup of softened real butter and 1 cup of sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed for 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add 2 room temperature eggs, 1 teaspoon of pure almond extract, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the mixture and mix well.
  4. Gradually add in 2 ½ cups of all-purpose flour and ½ teaspoon of salt, mixing at low speed until a soft dough forms.
  5. Press half of the dough into the bottom of the greased baking pan evenly.
  6. Spread the canned cherry pie filling evenly over the crust.
  7. Dollop small pieces of the remaining dough over the cherry filling to create a rustic appearance.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes until golden and the filling is bubbly.
  9. Allow to cool completely, then whisk together 1 cup of confectioners' sugar with a splash of water and drizzle over the bars.
