Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons loose black tea or 4 tea bags
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cherries pitted
  • 1/2 cup sugar adjust to taste
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish optional

Method
 

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat and add the loose black tea or tea bags. Let steep for 5 minutes, then remove the tea bags or strain out the loose tea.
  2. In a blender, combine the cherries and sugar. Blend until smooth. If desired, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove the pulp.
  3. In a large pitcher, combine the brewed tea, cherry puree, and lemon juice. Stir well to combine.
  4. Refrigerate the mixture for at least 1 hour to chill.
  5. To serve, fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the cherry iced tea over the ice. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, reduce the sugar or use a sugar substitute.
