Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni optional
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning optional
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  3. Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients and mix until crumbly.
  4. Gradually stir in the milk until a dough forms. Knead gently on a floured surface for about 1 minute.
  5. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into 4-inch squares.
  6. Place a tablespoon of pizza sauce in the center of each square, followed by a generous amount of mozzarella cheese and a few slices of pepperoni if using.
  7. Fold the dough over to create a pocket and press the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch.
  8. Brush the tops of the pockets with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
