Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups diced apples about 2 medium apples
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar for glaze
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk for glaze

Method

  1. Preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and granulated sugar until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Gently fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed in the batter.
  6. Lightly grease the waffle maker with cooking spray or butter. Pour enough batter into the waffle maker to cover the surface (about 1/2 to 3/4 cup, depending on your waffle maker). Close the lid and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 3-5 minutes.
  7. Carefully remove the waffle donut and repeat with the remaining batter.
  8. For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed.
  9. Drizzle the glaze over the warm waffle donuts before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, try adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the glaze.
  • You can also substitute the diced apples with diced pears or peaches for a different fruit twist.
  • If you prefer a crunchier texture, consider adding 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans to the batter.
