Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples about 2 medium apples
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans optional
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar for glaze
  • 1 tablespoon milk for glaze

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Gently fold in the diced apples and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. While the bread is baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  9. Once the bread is done, allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Drizzle the glaze over the warm bread.
  10. Let the bread cool completely before slicing.

  • For added flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the batter or a sprinkle of chopped cinnamon on top of the glaze.
  • Substitute the apples with pears or berries for a different fruit flavor, or add a handful of raisins for extra sweetness.
